sneaky chefs…

At the insistence of Amber’s dear friends Corey and Jill, she decided that it was high time for a day-long puree-fest.

You see, the McNabbs had gotten Amber a food processor along with two books for Christmas: Sneaky Chef and Deceptively Delicious. The intent is to prepare meals for your family that are healthy and nutritious, even if it means we have to sneak it in!

And so, after planning it for a couple of weeks, Amber and I got together on Saturday and went to town. We shopped for about $60 worth of vegetables (each), went back to the Holritz’s house, and spent the entire day washing, peeling, slicing, dicing, boiling, steaming, and pureeing — everything from spinach, blueberries, sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and on and on it goes!

Thank you so much to Nathan and Amber for these super, super fun photos of our “work” day!!!

We were actually happy and smiling at the beginning…

And tired, crabby and disgruntled by the end, sometime around midnight!

Now that we have all this puree stashed in the freezer, it’s time to start making recipes and slipping in the goods!!! Shhh!

Ha! You are so good about freezing things and still eating them. I am so bad at that! It’s like once they go in the freezer they are lost forever. Every now and then I open the freezer just to see what’s up and I find all sorts of things that I forgot about! I need to get better about that!

I’m anxious to hear how the “Sneaky Chef” recipes go. I have done some of the “Deceptively Delicious” ones, some with success, some without. But I love the concept (just as much for me as for the the rest of the family) and want to do more so if you have great success with some recies from the other book I would love to hear about it.
