On Saturday, Kellie and I had the opportunity to photograph the Posey Family…resulting in our first official photoshoot!
Heidi has been a good friend since college and I’ve had the pleasure of watching her family grow over the years…from her marriage to Kyle, to her first little one Avery, and now to her second baby, sweet little Maddy.
Kellie and I had a blast on our very first session, starting off in Avery’s room, which doubles as a play room for the kids. The light in here was just spectacular, with windows on two of the four walls letting in all kinds of beautiful light! Kellie and I couldn’t have been happier with the light!
Here is Avery, hamming it up for us. I love the motion blur he creates here, isn’t it so indicative of kids? Always moving!!!

A fun angle of Maddy

Heidi is an incredible mom. She’s laid back, loving, and fun. What more could a kid ask for?
I love this natural moment…

Maddy has some serious personality! She offered us a smorgasbord of funny baby faces and she smiles like it’s going out of style. I love it!

Ten-month old Maddy’s precious little baby feet!

Sword fighting. Yep, it’s a guy thing!

Pure excitement!

After about an hour indoors, we drove to a wonderful nearby park and spent the remainder of our time there. It was cloudy but I think we still managed to get some nice shots!
Little Maddy in the baby swing!

Everywhere I looked there was an adorable photo waiting to be taken, so I tried to get creative and capture some unique perspectives for them! This is a photo of Maddy, but also of Heidi and Avery, if you’ll notice:

A rule of composition that I’m having fun practicing: leading lines. I love this photo because the handrails lead the viewer directly to our little subject: Avery! Look how small he looks, reaching so high to hold on!

I love this one of Avery and Heidi! They made it so easy for me to capture fun family interaction!

Oh, this was so funny. Avery had gone down the slide, and when he landed on the ground (which was comprised of wood chips), he laid there, arms and legs refusing to make contact with the ground. It was traumatic. This is one of the reasons I LOVE taking photos! This would otherwise have been a fleeting moment, perhaps forgotten, but hopefully now will produce laughs and memories for years to come! And perhaps some parental blackmail in the dating years

Some daddy-daughter moments:

More sliding:

This was such a cool park – with tires all over! When the kids are older, we are going to have to take advantage of the tire swings!

The monster slide! The thing was huge! Check out Avery’s hair!!!

…and the much anticipated sunglass shot!

This was the brief second that all four Posey’s had them on at the same time – Maddy included!!!

And the self-portrait!

The end!
Thank you so much to the Posey family for allowing Kellie and I to spend a couple of hours with your family and including us in your day! We had a blast and can’t wait to do it again! We very much hope that you love your photos! Thank you for being our first!
