Well, it was time.
It was time for Alana’s very first hair cut at 20 months old.
And I wanted mom and Amber to come with me, in part because I knew Alana would not sit still unless she had plenty of entertainment, and in part because I knew I wanted pictures of the event and I wouldn’t be able to facilitate AND take pictures.
It turned out that the hesitant hairdresser asked me to hold Alana on my lap in hopes that she woudn’t get scared, upset, or freak out. I could tell from her sideways glances and lack of excitement that cutting toddler hair was not her passion in life. I don’t blame her.
So, I handed off the camera to Amber, who did a GREAT job documenting the occasion!
Thank you to mom, who distracted Alana like a superstar, and thank you to Amber for the awesome pictures! And I suppose I could thank my little sweet pea for behaving so brilliantly! What a champ!

The “before” pictures:

The scrunched-up nose and squinty eyes – otherwise known as a smile…

I am so proud of Amber, who even managed to capture the details!

Nana looking on and thinking about how much she loves being a grandma!

Paci helped out, too:

The back getting trimmed…looking much better! Mullet, begone!!!

Distracting her with chapstick…

This is me trying to convince Alana that sitting still for 15 minutes was, in fact, worthwhile. I don’t think she bought it.![]()

Post haircut! Looking much more like a two-year-old than I care to admit. She will be two in 3 short months, so I guess I’d better start accepting it.

Again, my brilliant sister capturing details:

As soon as we were done with the haircut, Alana grabbed the stroller and started pushing it towards a nearby jewelry store, as if to exert some newfound independence.
So, I will end with just a few photos post-haircut:

Thank you again to everyone who made this momentous occasion a roaring success!
Baby’s first haircut: check!
