Thursday night over dinner, Rich got a very mischievous look on his face.
Smirking, he glanced at Alana as if the two of them were hiding some kind of secret.
“I don’t know, cutie, do you think she’ll go for it?” He asked Alana, who was sitting in her high chair covered in southwestern taco salad.
She grinned back at him.
“What are you talking about, babe?” I urged.
“Oh, I just thought we could have a fun family errand after dinner tonight.”
“Okay, great, but where?”
“Don’t you just love suspense?”
“Not exactly. But I do love knowing what in the world you are thinking.”
“How about the three of us go to Krispy Kreme for a warm donut, you know, before Alana’s bath time, just for fun.”
“I love that idea. Let’s go! Oh wait! Alana’s never had a Krispy Kreme donut before…I’ll grab the camera!”
When we arrived, much to our delight, the Hot and Ready sign was flashing just for us!
I grabbed a couple of photos before heading into the sugary heaven. I LOVE this old sign!
We only needed 3 or 4 donuts between the four of us, but something inexplicable happened at the register. We ended up paying twice what we needed to and got three times the donuts we should have. I take no responsibility for this phenomenon. I think there are happy sugar fairies just floating around in this place; they bop you on the head and you lose all sense of logic. Self control flies out the window along with reason. Caloric intake suddenly seems irrelevant and sugar overload beckons…
We planned on getting one donut each, maybe two for Rich, and somehow we ordered a dozen. What on earth? Someone please tell me what three people are going to do with a dozen donuts? Really?
Alana’s first touch of the soft, warm confection…
And first bite, to which she exclaimed, “Yum!!!”
The donuts were so freshly frosted that we all ended up with icing on our fingers, hands, hair, and somehow, even my shoulder didn’t get out of there unscathed.
Then things got even more fun (if that was possible) when one of the employees (maybe the manager?) came up front and asked if we’d been given hats yet.
When we said no, he handed us some of the best. hats. ever.
Self portrait love!
Hooray for spontaneous family fun! Oh, and you will be happy to know that we only ate four donuts among the three of us. 🙂
Have a spontaneous Saturday, everyone!!!
