creative discovery museum…

It’s been a challenging week around here, with a sick baby and lots of crying, nose blowing, semi-napping, night-waking, and cancelled plans:(So, there is absolutely nothing new from this pitiful week, but I have an overdue blog to post!

I’m a bit ashamed that Alana’s already two and we are just now taking her to the Creative Discovery Museum for the first time. Granted, she’s at a great age now to be able to appreciate a place like this.

Last Saturday, after our wonderful morning snow photoshoot, we ventured downtown to the Creative Discovery Museum for the first time. None of us had ever been there before, so we all had a blast exploring!

We started off at the “Library” where we ran into Krista, a friend I’d gone to Covenant College with. She LOVES her job, and is good at it! Even Alana was enthralled by the gingerbread book Krista was reading:)

There are so many awesome little educational nooks at the museum…here, a medical clinic allows the kids to be mini doctors!

With related reading material…

An art studio with different age-appropriate activities:

No, Alana did not sculpt a snowman (you would have been impressed, huh?). Someone had sculpted this little guy and left him sitting there, just waiting to be smooshed by a toddler:)

Here we became archaeologists and dug for dinosaur bones!

They even provide little L.L. Bean vests and hats for the kids!

I loved this shot that Rich grabbed from above as we dug!

But I have to say that my favorite part of the day was the gingerbread house workshop! The three of us made our own gingerbread house from scratch, and loved every second.

SO cute.

Such a helper…

…and a goofball. That is a marshmallow:)

Midway through the creative process. I would never be temped to eat a gumdrop, but goodness, they are cute and festive!

An aerial rooftop view. We think we rocked this gingerbread house:)

And a fun family self-portrait (Alana made sure to sample the candies along the way).

We ended our wonderful day with a visit to a Children’s Opera before leaving the Museum. With a new annual membership, we’ll be back! More fun times in store!

It looks like there is a dollar bill coming out of Alana’s apron while you were making the gingerbread house. Are you sure there wasn’t another helpful workshop for the kids called “how to make money on the streets”?

I love CDM! Oh you know I especially love the art studio. I could spend hours making clay figures but my favorite is the stop motion films you can make. I had so much fun doing that. wow, loved it. Can’t wait to take Rye there. Glad you guys had a ton of fun.
