I can’t believe that my sister’s baby shower is over.
Is there such a thing as post traumatic baby shower syndrome? If so, I have it.
For the last several years my one and only sister has lived in South Dakota, which translated to seeing her ONCE per year. At Christmastime. We’ve missed out on a lot in each other’s lives, and nothing quite so difficult as missing out on aunt-niece time for my sweet daughters and my sis. Kids grow and change so quickly, and spending one week together at Christmas has hardly been enough.
So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out that my sister was moving from South Dakota to accept a job in Franklin, Tennessee, just two hours from us! Not only would this mean that I could throw a baby shower for her (which otherwise I would not have been able to do), but I’ll be able to be there for my nephew’s birth, and the girls will actually get to SEE and KNOW their new baby cousin, due this June. We can’t wait to meet him!
Apparently having my only sister pregnant with her first baby and moving close to me was all I needed to go into hyper-shower-planning mode. Truly, I have never spent this much time planning a party before…not even for my own kids. Ha! So, for the past couple of months I’ve been plotting and planning with my mom, and this past Saturday, baby shower day had finally arrived! I loved seeing all the planning come together, having friends and family come to shower Amber with love and gifts, and I loved photographing the details!
I’m excited to share some photos because for me, this was a labor of love. It was an honor to plan this shower, and I pray that Amber has beautiful memories of her special day. I am so proud of the result of all that planning, and quite sad that it is over. The shower ending was particularly difficult for me because my mom had to fly back to Florida the very next morning, and my sister had to drive back to her new hometown, also immediately following the shower.
But I digress.
Here are some of my favorite photos from Amber’s baby shower at my home, as we anxiously await the arrival of little Dawson Thomas! There are several people who deserve credit for making the shower such a success, and I mention them throughout the blog post. Enjoy!
Mom and I were excited to find hydrangeas, Amber’s favorite flower, in perfect shower colors 🙂
Thank you so much to our dear friend Alex for this chalkboard art! I was so excited to finally introduce my sister and Alex – she and Todd have become close friends of ours over the past couple of years and she had yet to meet my sister! Thank you for all of your help with the shower, Alex! We love you!
The incredible invitation and customized party package that I used are by the superbly talented Paula of BluGrass Designs on Etsy. She was incredible to work with and I highly recommend her! Seriously, use her for your next party – she is amazing! She made it possible to create a modern, classy, well-coordinated shower with her digital downloads, so once I placed my order and was sent the files, I was able to print, cut, and style as much as I needed on good quality cardstock. It was exactly the freedom and flexibility I was looking for, and her designs are to die for!
I used these mason jars with white azaleas for shower decor and then also as favors for guests to take home with them.
Vintage milk bottles with tags and paper straws for our lemonade!
Banners and wall art!
I couldn’t resist decorating with some onesies for my little nephew; I was especially drawn to the one on the right that says “wild about auntie” 🙂
The adorable elephant cake pictured below was made by my friends Emily Rhudy and Briana Taylor! Thank you girls!!! For the shower food, we had lots of fresh fruits and veggies and hummus since Amber has to eat a dairy-free, gluten-free diet. There were a few things she wasn’t able to enjoy, but we tried to be pretty considerate of her without spoiling all the fun for the guests 🙂 My personal favorite were the mini Tiramisu cups.
My beautiful, goofy sister. She’s always good for a laugh.
Tobi with Ivey Handcrafted custom made this blanket for me to give Amber at the shower and I love the result! Tobi has been a dear friend for years and we have had the privilege of ordering handmade things from her since the girls were babies! So excited that baby Dawson will already have an Ivey Handcrafted original!
This is the beautiful Jessica, a lifelong friend of ours! Thank you so much to Jessica for helping so much with the shower planning…
…and the thoughtful, personalized gifts for Amber!
On a very random side note, mom found the cutest folding chairs (ever) at Target while we were shopping for party supplies. If you need folding chairs for parties or entertaining, check out this gem: a perforated folding chair that got many compliments at Amber’s shower. The worlds most boring and drab piece of furniture got a serious makeover! Target does it again. I’m the proud owner of 4 of these (thank you, mom!), so I think another party may be necessary 🙂
My mother in law on the left and my mom on the right! Such a cute picture of them! I’m so thankful for these ladies!
Alana and her sweet friend Ada, who came to play with her during the shower! 🙂
We had fun writing on diapers in hopes that it would bring a smile to Amber’s face during middle of the night diaper changes 🙂
The adorable (and absolutely delicious) cookies are by the Signal Mountain Cookie Lady and we used them as another favor. If you live in the Chattanooga area and have not already tasted these sugar cookies (made to order in any shape and color) then go up Signal Mountain right now and buy one of Sandy’s creations! And dangerous bonus: she is now making chocolate chip cookies as well. They are amazing! And the favor tags showcase more design perfection from BluGrass Designs…we decided to stick these favor tags on the back of the elephant cookies so that they wouldn’t obscure the elephants from the front.
Another reason to love the customized party package? These precious thank you cards that I was able to print and gift to Amber with envelopes for shower thank yous!
Thank you for re-living Amber’s shower with me! I am so thankful for my mom, who flew up for the week to prepare everything with me! I’m thankful for our friends and family who helped make this day such a special one for Amber, and I am thankful that God blessed me with a sister to do life with! I love you, Pixie!!! 🙂
