Key West with Nana!

Rich and I have been married for almost 13 years and lately he’s been giving me a hard time about never having taken him all the way down to Key West via the Overseas Highway when we’ve been in South Florida for our bi-annual vacations with my family!

The two of us did go down to the northernmost key (Key Largo) last summer to photograph an engagement session, but its a completely new and different experience traveling all the way down to Key West because of how incredible the drive is, hopping from island to island with small and large bridges and being surrounded by ocean from every direction! There’s nothing quite like this drive, with ocean as far as you can see all around you and driving on small strips of land connected by bridges for hours. And of course the notable seven mile bridge is a super cool experience too!

So this summer, we decided to bring my mom, a good camera, an overnight bag, and make a reservation at a charming Key West resort and just go! It took us about 4 hours (actual driving time) from Fort Lauderdale to get to Key West, but we made some stops along the way for photo opportunities. And even though we documented most of the trip with just our iPhones, we did manage to take a few photos with the good camera, which I’ll share below!

It was HOT, of course, but we loved the drive, the colorful houses, the Conch Tour Train, taking photos at the “Southernmost Point” buoy, the gorgeous ocean view from our hotel room (Sheraton Suites Key West), the hotel pool, eating dinner and the best Key Lime Pie ever and watching the most amazing sunset at Mallory Square, and walking/shopping Duval Street! Overall, it was a trip well worth our time and Rich and the girls loved their first keys experience! And of course, it was all made better because Nana was with us!

Loved going down memory lane, guys! That was a fun trip. Next time, we’ll have to kidnap Dad from work…..
