alana’s first happy meal

I’m not gonna lie, we never eat at fast food places – with the exception of Chick-fil-a.

We all love it at Chick-fil-a because of the good white meat chicken breast that they use; and the fact that it never makes any of us sick. And it’s a great place for kids.

But other fast food places are another thing entirely. Rich and I both have sensitive stomachs, so when we do travel and eat fast food we usually regret it and end up sick. So, Alana has been to McDonald’s only a handful of times in her little life. We were recently on our way back from Nashville and when Alana started saying that she was hungry while we were on top of Monteagle Mountain, well, McDonald’s was one of three options. The others being Burger King or Wendy’s. Yikes.

So, this is Alana with her very first Happy Meal:)I was a tiny bit worried about her stomach, but she seemed fine with her cheeseburger – ketchup only – and fries. And chocolate milk.

She studied it, again asking me what it was called, and then enjoyed her lunch, liking that it was hers alone:)

And the Happy Meal toy? It was princess Fiona, of whom Alana knows nothing! Oh well, it’s a toy, and toys are fun!

Check out all this blogging! Hello! She’s baaaaaaaaaack:)

ikea!

Several weeks ago, Rich, Amber, Alana and I made a day trip to Atlanta to scout out some options for our new business, Strut. We just needed a few small things, and since Amber had never been to Ikea, this was the perfect time to go! Well, perfect, except the minor fact that I hadn’t yet been out of the house for a full day because of my pregnancy sickness. I decided to chance it, and since I would have lots of help with Alana, it seemed doable.

And it was a fairly good day for me, thankfully. Only mild nausea, so I was able to relax and enjoy myself (mostly)!

Here is Alana, all ready for our little road trip!

She loves her box of sunglasses, and typically picks out a pair that coordinates well with what she’s wearing. Seriously.

Thank you so much to Amber for snapping these photos before we walked out the door. Thank you big time, actually, because these might actually be the ONLY photos of me from my entire first trimester! Baby #2 will know that I actually existed in the first few months of my pregnancy!

A quick self-portrait outside of Ikea!

Amber LOVED it and wants to take Nick back with her! Since our Lashbrook Family Summer Vacation is a mere week away (HOORAY!!!) I think we may head to the Fort Lauderdale Ikea all together! Fun times!

Thanks again, sis, for the photos, and for all the patience with your pitiful sister as of late. I love you!

chalk!

I would like to begin this blog post by stating the obvious: I am the worst first trimester pregnant blogger EVER!!!

I cannot even explain how much I haven’t felt like myself for the past two months. I have been totally disinterested in many of my favorite things: blogging, photographing, Starbucks-iced-caramel-macchiato sipping, shopping, even getting together with friends has been pretty nonexistent. I have, however, been laying around the house doing nothing VERY, VERY WELL. I should get an award.

But something happened today. I still feel awful. Still nauseated, still exhausted. But I want to blog. I have only taken a few small sets of photos since I got pregnant, but today, I want to blog each of them.

So, prepare for rapid-fire blogging. I think I have 4 posts coming. Nothing major, nothing earth shattering. Just life. Life from the past month or so that I have felt good enough to photograph. So there you have it.

Alana had her very first experience with chalk a few weeks ago. We took advantage of one morning that wasn’t ridiculously deathly hot (there haven’t been many) and played outside. I had to document her first time with chalk, because, well, firsts are important to me. Big ones, small ones, everyday life ones.

We grabbed a bucket of $1 chalk at Target…

And Alana had fun running around and drawing on everything from the driveway to the sidewalk, to my car, to the brick on the house, to the white fence posts you see in the background here. It took a little explaining before she caught on…chalk is ONLY for the driveway and sidewalk!

Our handiwork from that day:

Then we saw this way cooler set of Crayola chalk at WalMart for $2. The colors were bolder and the tips were nice and pointed! We had to get it!

So while I was photographing the new chalk, she patiently played with the “old” chalk:)

Super proud of herself for something! Bad (blurry) photo, but cute.

Armed and ready! And a shirt full of chalk marks:)

And our handiwork from that day:

Such a fun first! Many more chalk times to come, I’m sure!
